3 Easy Home Remedies to Combat Sore Throat

Having a sore throat is the first sign of an infection of the upper respiratory tract and it can lead to a more serious problem when unattended. Your tonsils and adenoids are the first line of defense draining all bacteria to avoid entering into your digestive or respiratory system. Failure to function will lead to infection, cold or a serious strep infection.

Having sore throat gives you an uncomfortable feeling and your immediate action is to take fast relief from the pain. Though it is very ideal to go to your doctor, internists say that there is no need to press the panic button yet. All you got to do is try these different tips to get relief from the hoarseness, scratchy and pain you felt.

1. Gargle with salt water. Gargling salt and lukewarm water help aspercreme decrease the swelling in your tonsils and adenoids (more aspercreme). It also loosens secretions up so you can easily remove secretions, which contains millions of bacteria. Just remember not to swallow the water and if you have some honey, you can add a few to sweeten the mixture a little bit.

2. Taking cough syrups and NSAIDs. NSAIDs like Advil gives you instant pain relief and at the same time has anti-inflammatory effect. You can also take over-the-counter cough syrup to decrease discomfort though you don't have cough yet. Just choose the no-drowse cough syrups if you are going for work and drink nighttime formula medications like NyQuil or Robitussin AC to help you sleep at night.

3. Never ran out of fluids. Keep hydrated as much as possible. Thus, water is essential to avoid further infection and sore throat irritation. Staying hydrated helps your body boost its immune system fighting off bacteria and allergens. Though sodas are fluids, you should avoid this because the sugar content will add more to dehydration and bacteria thrives on sugar and starch in your mouth. Have some soup or simple drink 8 glasses of water. You can add lemon if you like.
